Hangzhou

West Lake scenery, temples and tea-country options. For a day visit from Shanghai, prioritize the lake and one additional sight.

Popular and local sights

Songcheng (Song Dynasty Town)

"Sung City": a large theme park recreating the streets, markets and riverside life of the Southern Song capital, with costumed performers. Its main draw is the hour-long spectacle "The Romance of the Song Dynasty" (宋城千古情), shown several times a day; 2025 listings gave roughly 12:30, 14:00, 18:00 and 19:30, with fewer winter shows possible. More theatrical than authentic, but a fun family half-day; an evening show suits an overnight stay rather than a day trip back to Shanghai.

China National Tea Museum

Tea culture displays and garden setting, a quieter alternative to adding more lake walking.

Grand Canal / Gongchen Bridge

Historic canal heritage and a local museum district; useful alternative if lakeside weather is poor.
